SAMPLE SCRIPTS: DOOR-KNOCKING

Door-Knocking / Sample Version A:

(Initial greeting) “Is [Voter’s Name] here?”

Hi my name is Lisa Gonsalves. I’m running for School Board, and I’m out today looking for feedback and input about our schools and our community; have you been engaged with school district at all? Do you have a child / grandkid in our schools?

Good schools are one of the best investments a community makes for its own future… Better schools mean fewer prison, lower crime rates, more desirable neighborhoods. Generally, how does your neighborhood feel to you — is it safe? Have you experienced some shifts over the last few years?

“While some of Anytown’s schools are excellent, some have a lot of work to catch up. As someone who experienced firsthand, the power of a quality education, I’m committed to every kid in every Anytown classroom because, with investment, each of them has the power to make a positive difference instead of becoming a community liability while we warehouse them in prison.

“The election is in November — and we’re already out learning the issues and building support. Can I count on your vote come election day?”

  • If Yes: Ask for permission for reminder call. Confirm or get phone number.
  • If STRONG Yes / Longer Conversation: Lawn sign, volunteer, meet’n’greet.
  • If No (“I need to learn more”): That’s totally fair. What do you see as the biggest issue facing our schools today?” Then talk to specific issue briefly (Candidate only!).
Use as an opportunity to build connection and to demonstrate knowledge
OR please visit: Lisa4Anytown.com for more information.
  • If No (Hard No): Thank you for your time. Have a good day.
